Although the concept for Marike Shepherds was developed in the early 1980's, we didn't  actually begin operations until the late 1990's.  Situated on approximately 38 acres in rural north eastern Michigan, the dogs have plenty of room to run and frolic.  All of our dogs are housebroken, the pups completely "Litter Box" trained at six weeks.  Each dog will live in the house at varying intervals, with up to six dogs at a time happily coexisting with us.  With nineteen dogs there is no way all would be able to stay in the house at the same time but five or six is doable!  When not living in the house, they reside in a heated kennel with ample room for all.  Dogs are exercised, played with and trained on a daily basis.

Since we breed for top quality dogs, we only produce one or two litters per year.  Each breeding is carefully planned with health, temperament and structure being the primary criteria. The genetic background of each dog considered for breeding is diligently scrutinized months in advance. 

All our pups undergo the Early Neurological Stimulation, a.k.a. SuperDog program, and are handled on a daily basis.  It's our belief that this early socialization and handling contributes to more balanced and social puppies.
